The Bloom of Life

So, it's Easter! I am not religious at all and have no beliefs in any specific worship or any specific god (though I really don't care what anyone else believes... we all get through this life in the way that works for us! So please, no lectures about religion to me :) ). However, I am incredibly spiritual and believe that it is a miracle and a blessing that I get to live this life. I am grateful to whatever forces made that possible.

I will go to Easter dinner with my Catholic family because my grandmother would like me to celebrate with her. And I will gladly! Easter is a time for me to celebrate as humans have for 10s of 1000s of years - to celebrate the rebirth of the earth and the bloom of life by being with friends and family and eating a meal together!

I am not sure what they are serving for dinner... if it is lasagna and there are no other main entree options, I will have the smallest of pieces. But most of my food is going to be veggies! I am allowing myself three pieces of "Grandma" chocolate (she always have Dove candies out!) and a macaroon for dessert. But that's my treat for the celebration day.

They asked me to bring desserts. I got macaroons for myself (coconut and egg based!) and an apple crumble and cinnamon cake for the rest of the family. I could have gone the fruit route, but that wouldn't have gone over well with my family!!

Then I will go watch Game of Thrones with friends (and pawn off the leftover desserts on them so that they don't come home with me!)

Chris and I went for a hike this morning to do our own earth-rebirth celebration! Like I said... I do believe it is a miracle I am here. I am deeply, deeply moved by the beauty of this world.

Koda ended the hike in a mud puddle.. of course!

Namaste, enjoy your holiday if you celebrate! Be good to yourselves, each other and this earth <3

  2. Sounds just like me ... as I said in this week's post I am not into organised religion at all but do consider myself very spiritual. I wondered if I might turn off readers mentioning spirituality so I'm glad to read your post. Then again my blog is called An Evolution in Body, Mind and Spirit so it was bound to come up! Lol

  3. I firmly believe in anyone has the right to believe what they want to believe, religion-wise. That said, Easter is about one thing, and one thing only; Jesus Christ giving himself up, dying on the cross, for our sins, so that man, no matter his/her sins, can go to Heaven if they only repent in God's name. Period. It's not about spring, or earth's spring rebirth. Easter was only created due to Christ's rising from the death for our sins. But whatev's... :)

    1. To each their own! There is a ton of evidence that Christianity co-opted pagan holidays (like midwinter or the start of spring or harvest festivals) into the religion to help ease converts into the religion... It was a religion of the people and the dates had to match up with existing traditions! "According to University of Florida's Center for Children's Literature and Culture, the origin of the celebration — and the Easter bunny — can be traced back to 13th century, pre-Christian Germany, when people worshiped several gods and goddesses. The Teutonic deity Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility, and feasts were held in her honor on the Vernal Equinox. Her symbol was the rabbit because of the animal’s high reproduction rate." Things like that! Like I said, I don't need religious lectures- I was raised in a strong Catholic household and studied religions in college! Easter is very much connected to spring and rebirth (like the resurrection!) and we are all free to make of the day what we will.

    2. No offense meant to ANYONE'S religion, really... But I know, undoubtedly, that this is a day used to celebrate Spring- which is my choice to celebrate since I have to attend a feast so my grandma is happy!!

    3. I choose to celebrate Easter as a holiday! It is our Autumn here so no good celebrating the harvest ;) Christmas time for me simply means family time. For me it is the one time where family gets together and friends unite. I love the closeness of friendship at Christmas but dislike the retail pressure. I was bought up as a Roman Catholic too and while it was a great upbringing, it was not for me. Most of my friends are Christians but we all seem to get along with our obvious differences.
